Indy Sends Super ProposalPosted: Updated:
Indianapolis' bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl is in the mail. The 900-page package will be distributed to National Football League owners, who will make a decision during meetings this month in Atlanta. Finalists Indianapolis, Minneapolis and New Orleans will each be given 15 minutes for live presentations to owners. The package includes pictures and information from the city's successful 2012 Super Bowl.
Melangton also says there are commitments from the private sector of approximately $30 million, to fund potential game-related operations, adding "that is absolutely a cornerstone of our bid."
Organizers says Indianapolis meets current guidelines that call for at least 19,000 area hotel rooms.
This year's bid includes two additional potential hotels. One could be built at Pan Am Plaza and another could go into the historic Illinois Building, which was acquired last year by an affiliate of Indianapolis-based Keystone Realty Group.
