The City of Indianapolis has launched its first crowdfunding campaign. The effort aims to raise $10,000 for a dog agility course at an existing park. The city is using Citizinvestor.com, which is geared toward public project crowdfunding. April 25, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Mayor Ballard today announced a new fundraising effort to raise money for a dog agility course at Paul Ruster Bark Park on the City's east side. The City will partner with Citizinvestor, a crowdfunding and civic engagement platform for local government projects.

The campaign seeks to raise $10,000 in the next 90 days to purchase and install a dog playground in the existing dog park. Indy residents may give tax-deductible donations to this project online. The crowdfunding approach to fundraising means no credit cards will be charged unless the project reaches 100 percent of its funding goal before the deadline.

“Citizinvestor is a unique tool that empowers citizens to make a difference in their neighborhood in an easy way,” Mayor Ballard said. “The completion of this project will enhance the experience of Paul Ruster Bark Park for the whole family.”

While budgets have tightened in local governments across the country, Citizinvestor offers an alternative funding source for projects that residents have a passion for.

“Citizinvestors have proven eager to invest in public goods across the nation. We are thrilled to be empowering the citizens of Indianapolis to invest in this great community,” Citizinvestor Co-founder Jordan Raynor said.

If Indy’s first crowdfunding campaign is successful, the City will look to raise funds for additional neighborhood improvement project opportunities.
