Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority would like to inform travelers that in the coming months changes will be occurring in the parking lots of Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA). Beginning April 22nd, the east end of the short term parking lot will close to allow the lot to clear out prior to the start of construction.
All individuals wishing to park in short term will need to enter through the first short term entrance, and park at the west end of the short term lot. Travelers should follow these procedures throughout the summer, until construction is completed. For easy access to and from the parking lot to the terminal building, please use the building entrances near the ticket counters. Individuals who would like assistance getting to their vehicle should see one of the FWA Customer Service Agents.
The temporary construction will bring about a more convenient parking layout for travelers, and improve access to the terminal building from the parking lots. The current east short term lot will become the car rental lot, providing car rental customers easier and closer access to the lot from the terminal building. Car rental customers will now also have shelter from the elements, as half of the new lot will feature covered parking as well as a covered walkway from the terminal building. The construction will also create a convenient new short term lot and car rental return entrance in front of the terminal building. A new, second long term entrance will be put to the north of the parking lot exit booth.
Another change will be the elimination of the existing small employee parking lot and the removal of the brick wall. This area will become a green space providing easy access to the terminal for passengers from the parking lots and a more welcoming presence to the front of the terminal building.
A second phase of construction will involve the reconfiguration of the existing car rental lots to accommodate a new taxi chute as well as a small employee parking lot.
