He believes Indiana lawmakers could increase the industry's momentum by giving wineries enhanced distribution rights, making it easier for them to get their products into restaurants. Best says using a third party to distribute to restaurants eats into a majority of the company's profits. He says the majority of the winery's business comes from selling directly at farmers markets and community events.
The winery recently won eight medals during a tasting event ahead of this month's Kentucky Proud WineFest.
Best Vineyards is celebrating its sixth anniversary. Wilbert and his sister Beretta Best founded company in 2008. They began by selling grapes grown on a farm Wilbert purchased.
The winery is part of the Uplands Wine Trail, which features ten stops. The others are: Brown County Winery, Butler Winery, Carousel Winery, French Lick Winery, Huber Winery, Oliver Winery, Owen Valley Winery, Turtle Run Winery, and Winzerwald Winery.
