The board of trustees at Wabash County Hospital is taking steps to form an affiliation agreement with Fort Wayne-based Parkview Health. The Wabash hospital has agreed to sign a letter of intent and the partnership structure is expected to be outlined in the “coming months.” April 16, 2014

News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Wabash County Hospital (WCH) and Parkview Health announced their intent to pursue an affiliation agreement. The Wabash County Hospital Board of Trustees recently agreed to sign a letter of intent as the next step in the process of forming an affiliation with Parkview Health. The structure of the affiliation will be defined over the coming months.

The WCH board began exploring the possibility of an affiliation nearly six months ago. The rapidly changing healthcare environment and changes in reimbursement among other factors all contributed to their decision.

“The letter of intent is the next step in the affiliation process. Once it is signed, we will begin negotiations with Parkview Health,” said Marilyn Custer-Mitchell, president and CEO, Wabash County Hospital. “We are excited to be working further with Parkview Health and look forward to our ongoing discussions. They are a well-respected organization with strong leadership and quality physicians.”

“We share Wabash County Hospital's excitement as the two organizations look to further explore what the appropriate steps are moving forward,” said Mike Packnett, president and CEO, Parkview Health. “There are a number of opportunities to discuss as we evaluate how we may best work together to serve the Wabash community.”

Wabash County Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital. Founded in 1919, the hospital offers the community a wide array of services including but not limited to inpatient care, cancer treatment, cardiology, home healthcare and hospice, 24-hour emergency services, physical therapy and sports medicine.

Parkview Health is a not-for-profit, community-based health system with 8,700 employees including more than 300 physicians and providers within Parkview Physicians Group. Parkview Health serves northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio and is made up of eight hospitals throughout the region including facilities in Allen, Huntington, Whitley, Noble and LaGrange counties.
