A 15-member southwest Indiana delegation will leave in June for Japan. The Gibson County Economic Development Corp. says the group will be comprised of students, educators and businesses representatives. April 7, 2014

News Release

PRINCETON, Ind. (March 04, 2014) – Eight Gibson County high school students and one

educator have been selected to travel to Tahara City, Japan. The Gibson County Economic

Development Corporation is conducting their third cultural student/educator visit

to Gibson County's Friendship City. The delegation will also include six business

representatives.

Leaving for Tahara City, Japan on June 1, 2014, the delegation will again pair-up

their visit in Tahara City with students and educators from Georgetown, Kentucky.

Georgetown, Kentucky is a Sister City to Tahara City.

Students and educators had to complete a questionnaire which included an essay asking

why they were interested in experiencing Tahara. “The decision gets more difficult

each time we select students. All the applicants provided us with excellent reasons to be

selected, however, we have a set number we can select based on our budget.” stated Dr. M.S.

Krishna, Chairman of the Friendship City committee. The Gibson County Economic

Development Corporation acts as the county's lead agency in all Friendship City affairs.

The students and educators selected are:

Princeton Community High School

Meghan Duguid

William Massaro

Logan Meyer

Gibson Southern High School

Brandon Beach

Mary Coyle

Juliana Osgood

Synda Simmers

Rachel Weiss

Ms. Amanda Brown – Educator

“2014 Travel to Tahara” will allow the students and educator to learn the Japanese culture

first hand as they will stay with host families, attend school, tour our Friendship City and so

much more,” stated B. Todd Mosby, President and CEO of the Gibson County Economic

Development Corporation. He concluded, “One highlight of the visit will be in attending a

private briefing by staff members of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. And the delegation will

travel from Tokyo by Shinkansen (Bullet Train) on their way to Tahara City.”

This trip will be the second visit for Gibson Southern High School teacher Amanda Brown. Ms. Brown was asked by GCEDC to take a leadership role on this trip and future GCEDC educational visits to Tahara City.

The six local business representatives attending will be:

Kelly Dillon – Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana

Tami Muckerheide – Gibson County Community Foundation

Karen Thompson – Gibson County Chamber of Commerce

Jason Spindler – Spindler Law

Michelle Prinzing – On-Site Health Solutions

Ron Parke – Princeton Auto Parke
