A social media campaign to name a new southeast Indiana bridge after the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants is receiving attention. Colonel Harland Sanders was born in Henryville, Indiana and opened his first KFC location in Corbin, Kentucky. KFC, which is owned by Louisville-based Yum! Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM), tweeted instructions to “vote for the #ColonelBridge” along with a rendering of the Ohio River Bridges project featuring the likeness of Colonel Harland Sanders.

The image has been shared by hundreds of people and received comments from thousands on the social media network.

A proposal to name the bridge after former President Ronald Regan was also introduced in January in the Kentucky legislature.

A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet official tells The Courier-Journal in Louisville the local government could be petitioned, which could lead to another avenue for naming the landmark.
