New Day Set For Bridge Slide

MADISON, Ind. and MILTON, Ken. – The highly anticipated slide of the 2,428-foot Milton-Madison Bridge onto its refurbished piers – the largest such maneuver in North America – will tentatively take place beginning Wednesday morning, April 9. As part of this rare engineering feat, there will be three media briefings:
Tuesday, April 8, 1:00 p.m. – A preview of the slide process.
Wednesday, April 9, 11:00 a.m. – Update on the progress of the slide, with hydraulic jacks moving 30 million pounds of steel and concrete a total of 55 feet – 20-22 inches at a time – up to 10 feet per hour. The entire process may take up to 16 hours. One-on-one interviews can be arranged during the morning or afternoon.
