Hoosier Voices for I-69 has named Kevin Brinegar chair of its board of directors. The advocacy group supports the highway's expansion between Evansville and Indianapolis. Brinegar also serves as president of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. March 26, 2014

News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Hoosier Voices for I-69 today announced the election of Indiana Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kevin Brinegar as chair of the Hoosier Voices for I-69 Board of Directors. Hoosier Voices is a public advocacy organization that represents a variety of perspectives, including that of business, economic development, labor and the citizenry from across Indiana.

The mission of the Hoosier Voices is to support the approval, funding, and construction of a direct route extension of Interstate 69 from Indianapolis to Evansville in order to improve the economic development efforts, job climate and quality of life throughout all of Indiana. The Indiana Chamber has been part of the organization since its conception.

Brinegar, who has been a member of the organization's board of directors for several years, will bring new leadership to the organization at a time when the focus of I-69 is on the area between Crane and Indianapolis. He replaces Jeff Mulzer, vice president of administration with Mulzer Crushed Stone in Evansville.

“At this stage, as the highway moves northward toward Central Indiana, it made sense for the chair position to move along with it,” Brinegar notes. “I'm excited to work with my fellow directors and businesses as Hoosier Voices advances and advocates for the continued construction of I-69.”

Hoosier Voices board members feel strongly that the organization must continue its focus on advocacy efforts in support of the remaining sections of I-69 as well as the new I-69 bridge over the Ohio River in Evansville, according to executive director Liz Irwin. “As we look toward the future, we see a highway with numerous opportunities for all Hoosiers. Hoosier Voices will continue to advocate for the highway's completion and having the leadership and vision of Kevin Brinegar is going to be crucial to those efforts.”

Brinegar emphasizes the new I-69 route will better the quality of life for Indiana residents as travel will be made much easier, safer and quicker. “Once in place, the new I-69 will have a positive ripple effect statewide – the rewards won't be limited to areas directly on the corridor. Indiana will be seen as a more viable hub for business and job opportunities thanks to the improved transportation capabilities.”

A Bloomington native and current Noblesville resident, Brinegar has been with the Indiana Chamber since 1992 – the last 12 years in the top position.
