Evansville, IN – At the March meeting of the Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Commissioners today, the bids for the Evansville Sports Complex were awarded for this $14M facility. A ground breaking ceremony will be scheduled in the next two weeks with construction to begin as soon as possible. The schedule is for the complex to be completed by spring of 2015 in time for the first tournament that was recently booked – the Indiana Amateur Softball Association Mens’ Softball Tournament will be played at the Evansville Sports Complex in July, 2015.
Following are the bids awarded today –
Empire Contractors, Inc for building concrete, structural steel and general trades, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, shade structures and bleacher – Total bid $5,024,000.00
Blankenberger Bros, Inc. for combination of two bids for site work, underground utilities and sports field turf – Total bid $6,414,000.00
The bid for the lighting contractor will be re-bid in the next 30 days. This delay will not affect the finalization date of this project.
This complex will be an 8-field complex located on 96 acres of land adjacent to the existing Goebel Soccer Complex. The Evansville CVB has formed the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Convention & Visitors Bureau Building Corporation that will serve as the corporation that will build, operate and manage this facility. All of the funds allocated for this complex come from the ECVB’ Tourism Capital Development Fund, an account that receives 3.5% of the 8% Innkeepers’ Tax. This fund is only used to build tourism related projects. The ECVB predicts that by year four, this complex will generate around $16.3 million to the local economy.Source: Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau
