Trine University in Angola has announced a new major in professional writing and English studies. The program begins this fall and is designed to prepare students for literary, technical or other writing careers.

News Release

Angola, Ind. — Those with a penchant for writing, a passion for English and a preference to earn a living as a writer or to pursue graduate school should apply for Trine University’s new program, the Bachelor of Arts degree in professional writing and English studies.

The program, offered by the Jannen School of Arts & Sciences’ Department of Humanities and Communication, is enrolling students in the program that will begin this fall.

“We're pleased to extend Trine's tradition of rigorous academics to this new major,” said Tim Hopp, Ph.D., department chair. “This program differs from traditional English programs because it combines classes in communication and professional and technical writing with literature studies. The goal is to graduate work-ready individuals who are well-prepared to embark on writing careers or graduate school.”

The 120-hour program features dual cores in composition and literature teamed with internship and practicum experiences. The program is rounded out with classes in speaking, English language, psychology, social science, mathematics and science.

Classes are taught by dedicated professionals with industry experience and credentialed scholars who will prepare students for graduate study. Trine’s small class size ensures personal attention and a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1. This approach applies to all Trine programs and it has proven successful. Of 2013 graduates, 97 percent were employed or in graduate school within six months of commencement.
