News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – While cities around the world celebrate the next season’s trends and the latest creations by top designers, Indianapolis-based production company, Midwest Fashion Week (MFW), looks to do more. With a jam-packed schedule of events kicking off March 14 in Chicago before moving back to Indianapolis March 17-22, MFW is hoping to educate those looking for an introduction into the fashion industry with two exciting seminars.

The first seminar will take place Monday, March 17 starting with a networking mixer at 6:00pm and the presentation to follow at 6:30pm will conclude with a fashion show at 8:30pm. This seminar will focus on fashion garment production, from fabric sourcing and pattern making to garment finishing and beyond. Guest speakers Jay Abertman of The Sourcing District, and Rich Brown of the Trendsetters Institute will give insight into what it takes to make a successful fashion house. Both guest speakers have 40+ years in the apparel industry with a mission of improving the skill and resources of talent in fashion garment production.

The following evening, March 18 will run on the same schedule, this time with Dr. Crystal Porter, owner of Mane Insights, presenting “Runway Hair: Getting to the Root of Beautiful Hair through Information, Personalization, and Transformation.” Mane Insights is an Illinois-based company that gives tailored hair care advice, from a scientific perspective, to those who want more beautiful, manageable and healthy hair. During her talk, she will emphasize the importance of hair quality in creating a head-to-toe look. Dr. Porter spent the majority of her 14-year career at L'Oreal, USA where she managed the Physics Laboratory and Consumer Insights teams.

MFW is known for providing guidance and education to those interested in working in the fashion and apparel industry, often mentoring youth and hiring interns from schools across the region. Fashion educators, fashion clubs, beginner and seasoned designers, as well as those with an urge to learn are encouraged to take advantage of these exclusive events. Both seminars will take place at the Jazz Kitchen (5377 N College Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46220) and are free to the public.

It is the mission of Midwest Fashion Week (MFW) to bring high fashion into the many aspects of Midwestern life and industry and to help those in the region who wish to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Each year, MFW puts on a number of runway shows and community events, with one major series taking place in the spring and in the fall.
