NEW ALBANY, Ind. - A just-released survey by bestcolleges.com recognized IU Southeast as being one of the best colleges in the nation for students with children.
Earning a college degree takes a tremendous commitment of resources - especially for students who are moms and dads, too. For those who are determined to finish their education, finding a school that meets their needs as a parent and student is especially important. Bestcolleges.com compiled a list to let students with children know their best options for finding support inside and outside the classroom. IU Southeast's on-campus child care center was ranked 14th best in the nation.
"The Children's Center is one of the crown jewels of our campus. The quality of the IU Southeast experience is enhanced greatly thanks to the services offered by Wanda Borrego and her team," said Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs Jason Meriwether. "For our students, employees, and community friends who are parents, the Children's Center provides a safe and healthy environment that promotes learning and offers an engaging curriculum."
The IU Southeast Children Center celebrates its 36th anniversary in 2014. Children between the ages of three and twelve years are welcome to attend from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday; the daily schedule includes two meals and snacks, hands-on activities, and outdoor recreation. The center is primarily used by students, faculty and staff at IU Southeast; although it is a licensed daycare facility open to the public.
Children's Center Coordinator Wanda Borrego said "At our most recent licensing inspection, our licensing consultant told me that the center is a ‘hidden treasure' in Southern Indiana. Receiving such a prestigious ranking only verifies the excellent care we provide."
