The Kokomo Tribune reports a study commissioned by the Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau outlines the potential impact of a 150-room hotel, restaurant and 13,000 feet of meeting space. Rob Hunden says the city would likely be on the hook for about half of the total price tag for a project of this kind.
He says the U.S. 31 bypass, which opened late last year to divert traffic around the city, presents an unknown challenge to future convention and visitor business.
Hunden anticipates a proposal such as this would be two years from breaking ground and around three years from completion.
He believes the city would have to contract with a major hotel chain in order to make the project happen.
