ORLAND, Ind. (March 10, 2014) – PakLab, a flexible packaging manufacturer specializing in custom flexible packing and co-packing, announced plans today to expand its operations here, creating up to 15 new jobs by 2016.
The Chino, Calif.-based company, with corporate offices in Commack, N.Y., will invest $1.19 million to equip its current 100,000 square-foot facility in Orland. The new equipment, which will be installed by this fall, will allow the company to promote sustainability through production of flexible, convenience packaging.
“PakLab had multiple options on where to locate its growth, and it chose Indiana,” said Eric Doden, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “With Indiana’s great location at the crossroads of America, Indiana companies don’t need to travel far to reach their customers. And with Hoosiers comprising the most dedicated workforce in the nation, Indiana is a state that works for growing businesses.”
PakLab, which currently employs more than 825 full-time associates across the United States, including 35 in Indiana, plans to begin hiring for manufacturing line positions later this year. Interested applicants may apply online at www.paklab.com/careers.

Founded in 1985, PakLab will focus its growth on increasing production of flexible packaging, which includes pouches that can be used for products including food, consumer goods and cosmetics. With a smaller carbon footprint and energy savings when compared to glass and plastic packaging, PakLab produces flexible packaging as a cost-effective way to help clients utilize environmentally-friendly containers. The minority-owned business operates an additional flexible packaging facility in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered PakLab up to $70,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of Orland approved additional incentives at the request the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation.
“PakLab is a valued employer in Orland and Steuben County,” said Kevin Kellett, president of the Orland Town Council. “This investment in new, state-of-the-art equipment is a good sign for the future of PakLab in Orland. The company had options as to where this new work was going to be placed. We’re happy to work with the state and local economic development officials to support that work here in Indiana.”
Just last week, Technology Solutions also announced plans to grow its Steuben County operations, investing $1.89 million to purchase, renovate and equip a 20,280 square-foot facility in Ashley, Ind. The firm, which specializing in medical software and archery equipment, plans to create up to 26 new jobs by 2016.
