Business Plan Competition Narrows Field

Semi-finalists have been announced for this year's Taylor Business Plan Competition. Six concepts are moving to the next stage. Finalists will be announced at the end of April. March 10, 2013

Upland, Ind. - Semi-finalists for Taylor University's 9th annual Taylor Business Plan Competition have been determined: "Button Drives" submitted by Blake Pieratt; "Spark N' Go" submitted by Ashley Walters; "CommSense" submitted by Wesley Allen, Andrew Kovacs, and Christopher Ochynski; "Million Dollar Scholar" submitted by Derrius Quarles; "The Anderson Brewery" submitted by Ashley Ledford and Eric Baker; and "ProjectionHub" submitted by Adam Hoeksema. These six business plans will progress to the next stage of the competition, which entails competitors provide complete and comprehensive business plans for evaluation.

Finalists will progress through the competition, pitching their business models and fielding questions. Critical upcoming dates for the 2014 competition include:

-Business Plans Due 20 Mar

-Finalists Announced 30 Apr

-Finalists Presentation Date 2 May

Final prize amounts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are $7,000, $3,000, and $2,000 respectively. In addition to cash prizes, the winning entrepreneurs will be offered the following forgivable loans from the Grant County Economic Growth Council for the purpose of building upon their investment in Grant County:

-First Place: $15,000.00 in forgivable loans

-Second Place: $10,000.00 in forgivable loans

-Third Place: $7,000.00 in forgivable loans

The Taylor Business Plan Competition targets businesses, existing or potential, operating within the Taylor University campus area of influence encompassing Grant, Blackford, Delaware, surrounding counties, and the entire state of Indiana. This event serves to stimulate entrepreneurial growth that generates meaningful job opportunities for residents of Indiana.
