A bill to set up a referendum on funding mass transit in central Indiana is headed to a conference committee. The House narrowly approved a version yesterday, setting up negotiations with the Senate on a final bill. You can view SB176 by clicking here.

Our partners at Network Indiana/WIBC report members of the Senate want a clause restored that would limit transit expansion to bus service.

House sponsor Jerry Torr says government and business leaders in Marion and Hamilton counties strongly support the House bill, even though it would lead to a local income tax hike.

The potential expansion of bus service would also extend into Johnson and Hancock counties.
