A restructuring by a Fort Wayne employer is expected to lead to job cuts. Exelis is planning to sell an area building complex that houses one of its divisions and move around some workers as part of the reorganization. Communications manager Kristin Jones says the restructuring will result in layoffs of less than 10 percent of the division's work force, which currently stands at about 450. At one time, the company employed about 1,700 in Fort Wayne.

That number is now 1,200, not including the new round of cuts.

Exelis is a defense contractor. It boosted the work force after securing government contracts during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

The work related to those deals has wound down, leading to lower employment levels.Source: Journal Gazette
