IU Moving Forward on Wishard Plan

Subscribe NowIndiana University is continuing to detail plans for the former Wishard Hospital site in Indianapolis. IU Vice President of Facilities Tom Morrison says about half of the property will be redeveloped into academic space. The remainder will be demolished. The school's plans include a $25 million project to turn the former Wishard/Dunlap Building into a drug discovery research laboratory. Morrison told Business of Health Contributor Barb Lewis that IU hopes to begin construction within a year. Morrison says the funding will come from a variety of sources including state appropriations, philanthropy and operating funds.
He says Wishard's primary entrance building will be maintained and will likely house the Fairbanks School of Public Health. The main hospital towewr will likely be demolished.
Indiana University took possession of the property as part of a land swap with Wishard Health. In exchange for the former hospital property, Wishard received 26 acres on the western edge of IU's campus for the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.
