City Announces Date of Bridge OpeningPosted: Updated:
Officials with the city of Jeffersonville now expect the long-awaited Big Four pedestrian and bicycling bridge to open in May. The News and Tribune reports the bridge was originally scheduled to open in April of last year. Mayor Mike Moore believes the project will bring "an explosion of new dollars and new people" into the Clark County city.
The publication reports more than 500,000 pedestrians and 75,000 bicyclists accessed the Louisville side of the span during the last year.
Handrail, lighting and structural issues on Indiana's $8.5 million portion of the project are among the reasons for the year-long delay.
