Bucshon: ‘Entrepreneurial Spirit’ Still Alive

Subscribe NowCongressman Larry Bucshon (R-8) says, despite challenges, entrepreneurs in his district are still willing to start their own businesses. He says southwest Indiana employers are still expressing concerns about health care, tax reform and industry regulations. While on a tour of small businesses, Bucshon tells Inside INdiana Business some big projects in the area hold great economic potential, including the planned Indiana University Medical School complex and a proposed I-69 bridge between Evansville and Henderson, Kentucky. His tour wraps up Monday and has included a Thursday job fair, as well as meetings at the Tropicana Casino in Evansville and visits with business leaders in Oakland City and Mt. Vernon.
Remaining stops include Vincennes and downtown Terre Haute.
Bucshon says he routinely discusses the so-called “skills gap” in his role as a member of the House Education and Work Force committee.
He says he has worked with higher education institutions including Ivy Tech Community College, University of Southern Indiana, Vincennes University and Indiana State University to serve as a “liaison” between industries and the schools to help model programs that will match work force needs with training efforts.
