News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Stephen J. Helmich, president and CEO of Cathedral High School, announced today that the Faith in the Future capital campaign has met and exceeded the goal of raising $10 million for the 96-year-old Indianapolis institution. “We are happy to report that our community came together to raise the funds for a significant investment in our school,” he says. “We are blessed to have people as part of our Cathedral family who believe in the great work our teachers are doing and the results we see in our students.”

Work on returfing the athletic fields and renovating the lower level of Cathedral's Loretto Hall began last summer. Expansion and upgrade of the school's Cunningham Fine Arts Center is slated to begin this spring.

The Faith in the Future campaign, the school’s first capital campaign since 2006, and was designed to provide funds for four vital areas: teachers, technology, tuition, and traditions.

One quarter of the $10 million raised is dedicated to providing for competitive compensation and professional development for teachers. About a third of the campaign dollars are being used to prefund current tuition needs and create a tuition-assistance endowment for the future. Faith in the Future campaign dollars also will be used to create a technology “Forever Fund” that provides for new technologies as they become available to make sure Cathedral students will always have access to the tools they need to be competitive in the careers of the future. In addition, current technology requirements such as updating wiring, purchasing learning management software, and acquiring new equipment have been met through Faith in the Future.

Equally important, the Faith in the Future campaign was designed to assure students the opportunity for to be involved in Cathedral’s tradition of excellence in the arts and athletics. The campaign will invest in updating and enhancing the Cunningham Fine Arts Center starting this spring, giving fine arts and musical groups more space for practice, rehearsal, and storage. “Although we have met our fundraising goal, we are continuing to ask for cash and unrestricted gifts to help with this phase of the Cunningham project,” says Nicole Beasley, vice president for advancement. “Additional donations will be required to make sure funds are available as we begin construction this spring.”

The Faith in the Future campaign was led by the campaign committee of Matt Cohoat, Cathedral class of 1978, and CFO at Becknell Industrial Properties; John Flynn, class of ’70, regional president at Old National Insurance; Nick Melloh ’88 president of Johnson-Melloh Inc., Johnson-Melloh Solutions, and Energy Solutions; Gail Sheil, professor at IUPUI and local philanthropist; Jack Snyder, Board Chair, Regenstrief Institute, Inc. and Chair Emeritus, Marian University; Nicole Farrell Beasley ’98, VP for Advancement at Cathedral; and Stephen J. Helmich, president and CEO, Cathedral High School.
