Merrillville, Ind. – Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), in partnership with South Shore Clean Cities, is expanding opportunities for alternative fuel, through the launch of a public charging station incentive program. The NIPSCO IN-Charge Around Town Electric Vehicle Program aims to make it easier and more affordable for businesses and organizations to install public charging infrastructure.
IN-Charge Around Town o¬ffers incentives to help with the up-front costs of public charging stations, in addition to installation costs and software subscriptions. The chart below shows the benefits available to eligible participants.

The pilot program is available to NIPSCO commercial/industrial electric customers across northern Indiana through January 31, 2015. NIPSCO is working with South Shore Clean Cities to o¬ffer this program.
For every unit of electricity used by IN-Charge Around Town charging stations during the pilot program, NIPSCO will buy an equivalent amount of renewable energy certificates (RECs). RECs are the environmental attributes associated with electricity that is generated from renewable sources, such as wind power.
This is the second alternative fuel program NIPSCO has launched over the past two years. In 2012, the utility began offering home charging station incentives. Participants in the NIPSCO IN-
Charge at Home Program receive an instant credit of up to $1,650 toward the installation of a residential electric vehicle Level II charger, and free overnight charging.
“From offering alternative fuel incentives and green energy programs to investing in technology at our generating facilities that will improve air quality, we continue to look for new ways to improve the environment,” said Kelly Carmichael, director of environmental policy for NIPSCO. “Current and future EV drivers will benefit from an expanded charging network in the region.”
“Electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to gasoline-powered cars,” said Carl Lisek, executive director of South Shore Clean Cities. “They offer fuel cost savings, produce no tailpipe emissions and help reduce reliance on imported oil.”
IN-Charge Around Town is available on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. This program is being off¬ered as part of a Supplemental Environmental Project under the NIPSCO New Source Review NOV settlement.
