Indiana State University has named Robert English dean of the College of Technology. He has served in the role on an interim basis since September and has been with the school since 1984. February 17, 2014

News Release

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Veteran Indiana State University professor and administrator Robert English has been named dean of the university's College of Technology.

At Indiana State since 1984, English has held the dean's position on an interim basis since September 1. He has previously served the college as associate dean, assistant dean, and as department chair and professor in the electronics and computer technology department. He served a university-wide administrative position as associate vice president for academic affairs from 2003 to 2011.

“Bob has served Indiana State University and its students, his community, state and nation with distinction for many years,” Richard “Biff” Williams, the university's provost and vice president for academic affairs, said in announcing English's selection as dean. “He has spearheaded many important initiatives in the College of Technology, including the development of new programs, and is the right person to lead the college through a new period of growth.”

English was selected following a nationwide search that attracted 37 applicants for the position. He said he is excited and honored to serve as dean.

“Indiana State has a strong reputation in the community, across the region, and the nation, which is most impressive,” he said. “I will work diligently with university leadership, faculty, staff, students, the ISU Foundation, industry and community leaders to move the college forward. By working together, we can make the College of Technology a desired destination point for students, faculty, and industry and community partners. I truly believe that the best days of the College of Technology are ahead of us.”

In addition to his academic experience, English is a military veteran. He retired from the Indiana Air National Guard in 2011 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He also has industry experience, having served the former Zenith Radio Corp. facility in Paris, Ill. as manufacturing engineering manager and an electrical manufacturing engineer.

English holds two degrees from Indiana State – a Bachelor of Science in electronics technology and a Master of Science in industrial professional technology. He also earned an Ed.D. in instructional systems technology from Indiana University.
