The Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety has approved funding to study the feasibility of renovating the Hulman Center at Indiana State University. The Tribune-Star reports an Arizona-based company will perform the study. Proposals call for the renovation to be funded through a yet-to-be established sports district around the venue, which would divert sales tax dollars back to the project. The district would need to be created and approved by state lawmakers. State Representative Bob Heaton (R-46) originally floated the idea of the renovation and told the publication it could cost $35 million.

The Tribune-Star reports the district could raise around $5 million per year for the project.

Additional funding was approved by the board of public works and safety to fund lobbying efforts at the Statehouse by Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP in Indianapolis.

Terre Haute City Attorney Chou-il Lee stresses the process is still in exploratory stages.
