New Airport Operator to Push Expansion
The new operator of the Gary/Chicago International Airport plans to make the $166 million runway expansion project a priority. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Aviation Facilities Co. Inc. officials plan to assign some of the company's engineers to the effort. The airport authority recently approved contracts with a unit of Aviation Facilities to to develop land and manage the airport. The stalled Gary/Chicago International Airport runway expansion could get a renewed push as a new private operator takes over at the the airport.
The runway expansion project started in 2006, but has been delayed several times.
The Federal Aviation Administration says if the project is not completed, the airport's current runway will have to be shortened.
That would cause many business jets and passenger airlines to avoid avoid the facility.Source: The Times of Northwest Indiana
