Kristin Jones says the goal of the Indiana High School Biotechnology Consortium is to support science, technology, engineering and math education by encouraging students to take part in research projects and enter them into a local competition. She says the IHIF's involvement allows the companies it represents to have a hand in educating the future work force.

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indiana High School Biotechnology Consortium (IHBC) is a collaboration between Project Lead The Way (PLTW) schools and the Indiana Health Industry Forum (IHIF) to pursue research in the secondary academic environment. Through this collaboration, high school students will interact with IHIF members, university researchers, and other high school students in the area to initiate a research project in the field of biotechnology.
The Consortium will develop an open network of IHIF professionals, industry leaders, and collegiate researchers willing to mentor research projects developed by Project Lead the Way students. The Consortium will hold workshops for students and teachers to deliver information on standards, practices, and resources for the research. Finished research will be displayed and assessed by attendees at the Opening Reception for the IHIF Annual Meeting on May 5, 2014 at the Conrad Hilton in Indianapolis. Winners will be announced at the luncheon on May 6.

Genetic Engineering
Digital Technology
Medical Devices
Team Mentors Needed! IHIF and PLTW are seeking mentors, project ideas, and other assistance to help advance the consortium. A project kick-off meeting will be held on February 22, 2014 (see below). The event will be a mixture of information on nanotechnology and genetic engineering from IUPUI professors, brainstorming time for possible projects and team time to work on projects that are already started, leadership building for students and primers on biotechnology for teachers.
