Frye Receives Clean Cities Award

Statehouse — Yesterday, State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) attended the 11th Annual Legislative luncheon and American Fuels and Technologies Expo at the Indiana Statehouse.
At the event, Rep. Frye was honored with a Stakeholder Award for outstanding leadership in the advancement of natural gas fueling infrastructure. Other award winners included former Indiana State Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and IndyGo.
“It is such an honor to receive the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Stakeholder Award,” said Rep. Frye. “I consider the work that I have done in regards to the promotion of natural gas one of the greatest accomplishments of my legislative career. I am grateful to be recognized for that but most importantly, I am thrilled to be able to see the positive effects of that every day.”
In 2013, Rep. Frye authored legislation to incentivize the use of natural gas as a motor fuel. Specifically, this legislation provided an income tax credit for placing into service a natural gas powered vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 33,000 pounds.
“Since the Indiana Department of Transportation began using alternative fueling vehicles, they have saved an estimated $179,339 in taxpayer dollars by switching to compressed natural gas,” said Rep. Frye. “However, my goal in this legislation was not simply at the macro-level. I want to see these same opportunities available at the micro- level. I want to see more Hoosier families filling up their cars with this inexpensive, clean, domestic product. By increasing demand, we have seen more and more natural gas fueling stations popping up across Indiana and are one step closer to making that a reality.”
This event also allowed Rep. Frye and other legislators the opportunity to meet fleet users and industry leaders and discuss how alternative fuels and technologies are reducing their operating costs and creating more Hoosier jobs.
According to the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition, in 2013, public and private sector fleets across Indiana reduced their petroleum consumption by over 15 million gallons.
