News Release

Jeffersonville, Ind. — One Southern Indiana (1si) and the City of Jeffersonville announce VOSS Clark's intention to improve its steel processing facility located at 701 Loop Road in the Port of Indiana – Jeffersonville. Through the coordination of 1si, VOSS Clark officials will appear before the Jeffersonville Redevelopment Commission tonight in Jeffersonville City Hall, which will determine VOSS Clark's eligibility to request local tax incentives at a City Council meeting on February 3, 2014.

Upon the approval of tax abatement by the Jeffersonville City Council, VOSS Clark will invest $12 million in upgrading their equipment in a project that will span from February 2014 until December 2015. “The City of Jeffersonville is very pleased to see the continued improvements and capital investment at VOSS Clark,” said Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore. “We believe this project and other recent retention projects are evidence the manufacturers in this area are securing their future in Southern Indiana.”

A subsidiary of VOSS Industries, VOSS Clark is a 540,000 square-foot steel processing plant offering hydrochloric acid pickling, slitting, and first operation blanking. The company specializes in additional services including tension leveling, pre-wash, automated critical surface inspection, special coatings, gauge and width monitoring, and electrostatic oiling. The company currently employs 132 at their Jeffersonville facility.

“The automotive and steel industries are using more advanced high strength steels in order to meet the stringent Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAF?) standards. In order to maintain our position as a viable steel processor for the automotive industry, VOSS Clark must upgrade its manufacturing equipment to effectively process these advanced high strength steels,” said Joseph Rhodea, President of VOSS Clark. “These enhancements will continue to improve our efficiency and position at VOSS Clark to meet the changing challenges of the steel processing industry. Although Southern Indiana is a logistically exceptional location and we have state-of-the-art steel processing equipment and systems, we feel the true key to our success is our employees. They are a very loyal, hardworking and committed team dedicated to providing excellent customer service and superior product quality.”

“We are fortunate to have companies like VOSS Clark call Southern Indiana home,” said Wendy Dant Chesser, President and CEO of 1si. “We don’t want to take any of our businesses for granted – whether they are brand new or a company that has been a long-term member of our community. Through our business retention and expansion program we were able to offer VOSS Clark immediate assistance to coordinate this process.”

“VOSS Clark plays a key role in the steel campus at the heart of the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville,” said Port Director Scott Stewart. “Their operation touches many other steel-related companies located at our facility, which creates significant synergies for the auto and appliance industries.”
