The prototype police cruiser created by now-defunct Carbon Motors Co. has sold at auction for nearly $90,000. The sale also included the company's intellectual property, computers and other equipment. The auction company says, including the buyer's premium, the vehicle and intellectual property sold for $87,320. Three other sales, including Carbon Motors' trade show setup, a television and stanchion fixtures, brought the total sale to just over $90,000.
Key Auctioneers is not releasing the names of the four buyers, but says there was a total of approximately 30 bidders.
Carbon Motors announced plans in 2009 to locate its headquarters in Connersville and create more than 1,500 jobs. The company closed in 2012 after the U.S. Department of Energy denied it a $335 million loan.
