An organization representing former professional football players is supporting a youth concussion education initiative. The NFL Alumni Indianapolis chapter is set to present a donation this morning to the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center for its “Brain & Beyond” program. January 23, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An organized group of former NFL players has huddled and decided on their next play: to encourage further studies into how the brain works.

These Indiana-based veterans of “America's game” and community leaders are teaming up with Indiana's top brain specialists at IU Health to further explore the effects of head injuries and inspire the neuroscientists of tomorrow by teaching young minds about the three pounds of precious cargo inside their heads. On Thursday, Jan. 23, the NFL Alumni Indianapolis chapter will present a $35,000 gift to the IU Health Neuroscience Center via Methodist Health Foundation. The gift will benefit the IU Health Neuroscience Center's research efforts into concussions and support the center's “Brain & Beyond” youth education program.

NFL Alumni Indianapolis chapter president Bill Schultz said, “The study of the brain is critical to so many of our past and present NFL players, and of course the future players that reside in our children. I personally can think of no better organization to be at the helm of this research than IU Health.”
