News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Organizers of Bloomington's annual conference of technology and innovation, The Combine, have announced the first slate of speakers for this year.

Wikipedia founder and CEO, Jimmy Wales will be this year's keynote speaker. Wales is an Internet entrepreneur, technology visionary and was named one of TIME Magazine's “100 Most Influential People.” Wikipedia has changed the way people access information online and in every day life and is the 5th most visited web site worldwide. Wales is presented by IU Alumni Association and the Indiana University Office for Engagement.

The Combine is one of the Midwest's largest conferences for coders, innovators, new media, investors, and technologists, and brings attendees from across the country. The event features a high-energy pitch session, a lobby con featuring some of the most exciting start-up companies, and main stage speaker series.

Wales will be joined in the speaker series by Internet cat sensation Lil Bub and “her dude” Mike Bridavsky, Sarah Ware, CEO and Founder of Markerly, and New York Times best selling author and social media marketing guru Jay Baer. Additional speakers will be announced in coming weeks.

“This year's speakers will build upon previous Combine's history of connecting people through the themes of community, culture, creativity, capital, and code,” explained Mike Trotzke, organizer for the Combine. “Our speakers will share stories of how they have used technology to interact, find solutions, inspire and do business. Attendees will be presented with real world examples and the opportunity to spark new ideas and make valuable new contacts at the conference.”

The Combine is a sponsor-funded, non-profit volunteer-run event and a project of the Huamentrix Foundation, Inc. The 2014 event is made possible by the support of IU Alumni Association, Indiana University Office for Engagement, The City of Bloomington, Cheddar Getter, Visit Bloomington, Gayle & Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship, Bloomington Technology Partnership, SproutBox & WhimMill.
