Committee Chair Still Mulling Marriage VotePosted: Updated:
A committee vote on the proposed state Constitution amendment that would alter the definition of marriage could take place next week. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the House Judiciary Committee chairman still has not set a date for a vote after members heard hours of testimony on the issue this week. House committees have until January 28 to take action.
Legislators heard close to four hours of testimony on both sides of the issue Monday.
The Times reports Representative Greg Steurwald, who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, plans to give both sides "plenty of notice" as to when the next proceedings will occur.
The General Assembly is closed Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
