Governor Mike Pence has re-appointed Carolene Mays to another term as commissioner of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. Before joining the IURC, she was president of the Indianapolis Recorder newspaper and Indiana Minority Business Magazine. January 15, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Governor Mike Pence today reappointed Carolene Mays as Commissioner of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Mays was originally appointed to the IURC in 2010. Her current term will end on December 31, 2017.

“Carolene Mays has served Hoosiers well in her role as commissioner, ensuring that Indiana has access to reliable utility services at fair, reasonable prices,” said Pence. “I am confident Hoosiers can count on her and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to serve their needs and protect their pocketbooks in the years to come.”

Mays currently serves on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Water and Washington Action Committees. She is the NARUC Chairperson of the Committee on Critical Infrastructure and a spokesperson regarding Cybersecurity and Infrastructure issues. She is also President of the Mid-America Regulatory Conference (MARC) and was recently named one of Smart Grid's 50 Pioneers of 2013.

Prior to serving on the IURC, Mays served as Publisher and President of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper and the Indiana Minority Business Magazine. From 2002 to 2008, she served in the Indiana House of Representatives, where she received several legislator of the year awards.
