‘Parks And Rec’ to Feature More Hoosier Flavor

She says the show's producers contacted her after shooting an episode last year in Indianapolis. The small business sells pre-packaged, slow-cooker meals at the Indianapolis City Market and local grocers. The show airs on WTHR in Indianapolis, which is a partner of Inside INdiana Business.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – NBC's popular sitcom comedy, “Parks and Recreation” will feature Indiana grown and marketed product, “Pawnee Chickpeas” crock pot meals in an upcoming episode titled “Farmers Market.”
When show writers wanted authenticity to develop a script on how to market Indiana products, they contacted Cara Dafforn owner and operator of Indianapolis based of U-Relish Farms. Mrs. Dafforn successfully sells crock pot meals at the Indianapolis City Market in downtown Indianapolis. Impressed with her homegrown success, writers incorporated her ideas in the show script.
A Pawnee Chickpea crock pot meal was developed by Mrs. Dafforn for the episode but it is now on sale at the Indianapolis City Market. Mrs. Dafforn has permission from NBC to market her new product titled simply “Pawnee Chickpea.”
According to Mrs. Dafforn U-Relish meal packaging, signs and other sales tools were loaned to NBC to mock up an Indiana farmers market in California where the show is recorded. Award-winning stars Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman bring the script to life in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana where the show takes place. Parks and Recreation, “Famers Market” is scheduled to air on January 23rd, 2014 at 8:00pm on Channel 13, WTHR the local NBC affiliate.
