IU Kokomo to Host Finalists For Chancellor

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo chancellor search committee has named four finalists in the search for a new chancellor. Finalists for the position will visit the campus this month to meet with faculty, staff, students and community members.
Following those visits, the search committee will meet again and make further recommendations to President Michael A. McRobbie and Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs John Applegate, who will then meet with those candidates and recommend a final selection to the IU Board of Trustees.
The finalists and their campus visit dates are:
-Jan. 13: Susan Sciame-Giesecke, interim chancellor and professor of communication arts, Indiana University Kokomo.
-Jan. 16: Sandra Stone, vice president for academic affairs, Dalton State College.
-Jan. 21: Margaret Madden, provost and vice president for academic affairs, State University of New York at Potsdam.
-Jan. 23: Joseph Jones, university provost, North Park University.
A 13-member search committee composed of faculty, staff, students and alumni began work in the summer to identify and interview candidates for the position.
“The search committee has worked diligently and carefully to find four outstanding finalists in a very strong pool of potential candidates,” said William Lowe, IU Northwest chancellor and chair of the search committee. “We have invited these excellent candidates to visit the IU Kokomo community, and the committee looks forward to welcoming them and to receiving comments from our colleagues about the candidates.”
Susan Sciame-Giesecke
Sciame-Giesecke has served as the interim chancellor at Indiana University Kokomo since September 2012. She is also a professor of communication arts. Previously she served in a variety of capacities at Indiana University Kokomo, including as executive vice chancellor of academic affairs and student affairs, dean of the school of arts and science, and chair of the humanities department. She has a Ph.D. in speech communication from Indiana University Bloomington.
Sandra Stone
Stone has been vice president for academic affairs at Dalton State College in Georgia since 2010, where she also holds a professorship in the Department of Social Sciences. Before that she served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of West Georgia and as interim director of the Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Center for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. She received a doctorate in sociology from Emory University.
Margaret Madden
Since 2002, Madden has been the provost and vice president for academic affairs of the State University of New York at Potsdam, where she is also a professor of psychology. Prior to that she was a dean at Long Island University, and she held academic administration and faculty positions at Lawrence University and Franklin Pierce College. She received her Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Joseph Jones
Jones has been university provost at North Park University in Chicago since 2007. His prior experience includes serving as academic dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences at Messiah College and as the director of the Center for Justice and Urban Leadership at Taylor University. He received his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Albany, SUNY.
