Ohio-based The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) has re-opened an Indianapolis store after a nearly $2 million renovation. The upgrades include a new pharmacy and improved produce and floral departments.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Kroger Central Division celebrated the grand reopening of the company's store at 3361 Kentucky Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana at a celebration at 8:30 AM this morning.

The total economic investment in this store is $1.9 million. Kroger's project was led by Project Manager Alex Edge. This investment strengthens Kroger's economic and workforce commitment to Indianapolis.

Kroger Quote:

Our solid success in the marketplace allows us to make significant economic and work force investments in our Indianapolis stores. Today's $1.9 million investment allows us to continue providing quality products, competitive prices and outstanding customer service, while being a supportive community partner. This remodeled store focuses on giving our customers exactly what they want to see in their store. We are very proud of Store Manager Andrew Fair and his team. Andrew, who has five years of experience in the grocery business, did an exceptional job in keeping his store team focused on serving our customers during construction. All of us are very proud of his dedicated community service and leadership. I also am very honored to recognize the longest-serving associate in this Indianapolis store, Marvin Wolfe, who has worked for Kroger since 1970 (43 years). All of us are very proud of his dedicated service and leadership in mentoring newer associates.”

?? A brand new pharmacy with walk-up window

?? Updated produce department

?? Updated floral department

?? A new nature's market that more than doubled in size

?? An upgraded meat and seafood department

?? An upgraded deli and bakery

?? New entry and exit vestibule

?? New family restrooms

?? New frozen doors

?? Upgraded dairy department

During the grand reopening event, Kroger made $1,000 donations to our neighbors from Community Caring and Sharing, $1,000 donations to our neighbors from Family Development Services and $500 to Gleaners Food Bank in honor of chairman of The Kroger Co., Dave Dillon, who announced his retirement as CEO. Mr. Dillon's leadership of the company has included a dramatic increase in hunger relief; the launch of the Perishable Donation Partnership and Kroger's being named the most generous company in America. A second donation to Gleaners was announced, representing $12,323 in cash donations by Kroger associates and customers during the annual “Share Your Feast” food drive. Results of food donations have not been finalized and will be announced later.

The Kroger Co. has been serving local communities for 130 years. The Kroger Central Division has 136 food stores, 114 pharmacies and 77 fuel centers operating under four banners; Kroger, Scott's, Owen's and Pay Less, with locations primarily in Indiana and Illinois, in addition to three stores in Missouri, one in Michigan and one in Ohio. Kroger Central Division is dedicated to supporting every local community it serves, contributing more than $13.3 million in 2012 to local organizations, primarily focusing on hunger relief, K-12 education, health causes and diversity.
