A Carmel-based event management company is taking over operations of some Indianapolis races. The Carmel Road Racing Group says it has acquired the Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon & 5K and the Indianapolis Polar Bear events from Ken Long & Associates in Greenwood.

News Release

Carmel, Ind. — The Carmel Road Racing Group (CRRG) has acquired two Indianapolis-based races, the Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon & 5K and the Indianapolis Polar Bear 5 Mile, 3 Mile and Doubler, from Ken Long & Associates.

With the purchase of the rights to the Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon, CRRG has expanded its event catalog to include Indiana's largest women's half marathon (a top-10 half marathon overall in Indiana, in number of registrants), to be held June 7, 2014. The event has also included a fashion show during the Fitness Expo, hosted at the Sheraton Indianapolis City Centre Hotel for the first time this year, and may expand to offer a post-event celebration party. The 2014 half marathon course will undergo a change and take runners northwest of downtown along the White River to the world-renowned Major Taylor Velodrome and back. The new course provides more shade as well as a fast, flat route. The event also offers a 5K distance, with its start and finish sharing the half marathon course.

The Indianapolis Polar Bear event will enter its 32nd year as participants take the start line on Feb. 22, 2014. The race offers a 3 mile and 5 mile distance, as well as its famous “doubler” option for a total of 8 miles. Both races start on Vermont Street and finish on Michigan Street in downtown Indianapolis.

“We are so excited to add these two events to our growing list of local races,” said Todd Oliver, president of Carmel Road Racing Group. “There's a ton of potential in the Women's Half Marathon with the female running population booming in Indiana and beyond. The Polar Bear race is such a staple in the Indy running community, and I think we'll be able to add a lot of value for those who have come out in years past. Just like the participants, we can't wait to kick off 2014 with a successful race next month!”

The courses for the Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon and Indianapolis Polar Bear both feature the city's finest downtown sites. The Indiana War Memorial acts as the headquarters for the Polar Bear race, providing a warm location for post-run celebrations.

CRRG, a sponsorship and event management company based in Carmel, Ind., currently conducts for-profit and charity races throughout the Midwest including its signature event, the Carmel Marathon Weekend on April 12. CRRG also recently announced plans for the inaugural Bedford Half Marathon on Oct. 4, 2014, a 13.1-mile, 5K, and 1-mile distance event held in the southern Indiana city of Bedford.
