Greenfield Mayor Dick Pasco will be laid to rest Monday in Hancock County. He had served as mayor since last year and died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. Prior to his time leading Greenfield, Pasco spent decades as a funeral director and 20 years on the city council. He was 66. December 13, 2013

Obituary

GREENFIELD, Ind. – Richard “Dick” J. Pasco, age 66, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013. He was born on September 15, 1947 in Indianapolis the son of Charles and Marianne (Wertenberger) Pasco. Dick graduated from Greenfield Central High School in 1966. Mr. Pasco attended Vincennes University, Ball State University and received his Mortuary Science Degree from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War stationed on the USS Trumpetfish SS-425, from 1968 until 1971. On September 28, 1978 Dick married Joan A. (Goddard) Pasco.

Dick is currently the Mayor of the city of Greenfield. He was a lifelong Funeral Director and former owner of Pasco Memorial Mortuary in Greenfield. He was a member of Trinity Park United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #119 and the Greenfield Elks Lodge. He also worked for Dellen Automotive in Greenfield and Shirley Brothers Mortuaries in Indianapolis. From 1971 to present Dick was a member of the Greenfield Kiwanis Club, within that time he was a two time past President, Club Secretary and served as chairman of several committees. He served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Rose Division from 1990 to 1991, Indiana District Governor from 1994 to 1995, was on the Builders Club International Committee from 1996 to 1997, and also served as a chairman of Community Services International Committee from 1997 to 1998, all for the Kiwanis International Club. Dick was a board member for three years of the Indiana Kiwanis Foundation. While dedicating his time to Kiwanis International, Dick received various awards including, Distinguished Lt. Governor Award of the Indiana District, Outstanding Lt. Governor of the Year of the Indiana District, Distinguished Governor Award of the Kiwanis International, McCoulate recipient and Diamond Level Hixon recipient.

In 1995, Mr. Pasco received the Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Bayh and served a year on Governor Bayh's Local Government Advisory Committee. Dick served as a board member for four years and President one year for Greenfield Parks and Recreation, four years on the Greenfield Planning Commission Board, served on the Greenfield City Council, County Council, was a Council President and also a Budget Chairman. He was a past board member of Greenfield Country Club, Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County, Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and served many years with United Way Hancock County. Dick was the Director of District 7 for two years of Indiana Funeral Directors Association and was also a board member for four years and Charter President of Independent Funeral Directors of Indiana.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joan; daughter, Jennifer (Doug) Pasco-Beck of Columbus, OH; children, Patricia and Richard J. Pasco II of Abingdon, VA; two grandsons; Zachariah Pasco and Jacob Austin Beck of Columbus, OH; sister, Salli Williams of Greenfield; and brother, David C. Pasco of Greenfield. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 14, 2013 and Sunday, December 15, 2013 both from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Brandywine Community Church in Greenfield. Pastor Mike Manning will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
