INDOT Considering Another I-65 Expansion
The Indiana Department of Transportation is looking into the possibility of expanding Interstate 65 to six lanes between Indiana 38 and Indiana 25 in Tippecanoe County. Spokesman Will Wingfield says INDOT is “ready to move quickly” if funding becomes available for the estimated $69 million project. Wingfield says mobility reports show heavy traffic in the area, which is why it was chosen for potential expansion.
INDOT has already widened the interstate north from Indianapolis to Lebanon and from Valparaiso to the end of I-65 near Chicago in northwest Indiana.
Governor Mike Pence's 2014 legislative agenda includes setting aside $400 million for highway projects.
