Pence Not Ruling Out County Income Tax Hike
Governor Mike Pence is not ruling out the option of a potential county income tax increase to make up for the proposed elimination of the business personal property tax. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Pence says there are “different kinds of taxes” that could help fill the gap. The paper reports Pence says other types of taxes “wouldn't be such a barrier to economic growth.”
The phase out of the business personal property tax is a key element of Pence's 2014 legislative agenda. He believes it would help spur new investment and growth in the state.
House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath (D-9) believes the proposal results in tax breks “being lavished on corporate board rooms and not families.”
