The Whiting Redevelopment Commission is expected to review the second phase of a feasibility study spearheaded by Mayor Joe Stahura. His vision includes a building that would house the Chicago Baseball Museum and be the new location of the National Mascot Hall of Fame. Stahura's vision is part of a larger, ongoing redevelopment effort around Oil City Stadium.
He tells Inside INdiana Business the project is “still very much in the discovery phase.”
Earlier this year, officials from the mascot hall visited the city and have presented a proposal to relocate from its current home in Delaware.
A feasibility study has already wrapped up on the mascot hall and results from the baseball museum are expected shortly after Christmas.
Stahura says if things progress to Phase 2 of the feasibility study and it meets the approval of the redevelopment commission, plans for construction can take shape.
