Kroger Store Undergoes $2 Million Renovation

Ohio-based The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) has re-opened an Indianapolis store after a $2 million makeover. The project included upgrades to the pharmacy and produce departments as well as improved security.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Kroger Central Division leaders celebrated the grand reopening of the company’s store at 2629 East 65th Street in Indianapolis at a celebration at 8:30 AM this morning.

The total economic investment in this store is $2 million. Kroger's project was led by Project Manager Holly Fritz. This investment strengthens Kroger’s economic and workforce commitment to the local Indianapolis community and will create additional jobs over time. This is the third of four major remodel projects completed by Kroger in Indianapolis in 2013. Those projects exceed $13 million in value and added several dozen new jobs.

All of us are very proud of his dedicated community service and leadership. I also am very honored to recognize the longest-serving associate in this Indianapolis store, James Bandy, who has worked for Kroger since 1979 (34 years). All of us are very proud of his dedicated service and leadership in mentoring newer associates.”

This store remodel offers Kroger customers:

 Gross retail space of 66,448 square feet

 Enlarged pharmacy area will include all new cabinetry, new shelving and finishes.

 Relocated customer service and accounting office with new cabinetry, d?cor and carpet.

 Upgraded produce department

 New deli and bakery cases to include hot/cold case, deli service cases, cake decorating case, self-service bakery case and relocated frozen case

 Meat department upgrades include new fresh meat cases

 New plastic bascarts and electric carts.

 Technology equipment including new scales, and upgraded security

 Updating storefront with new finishes, new energy efficient exterior LED signage and repainting of the exterior of the building

During the grand reopening event, Kroger made the following donations: $1,000 to the Glendale Christian Church food pantry, $10,000 to Indy hunger Network, $25,000 to Gleaners Food Bank, $12,000 to Riley Hospital for Children and $1,000 anonymously to the family of a Kroger associate whose home was destroyed by a recent tornado.
