The Northeast School Corp. board has voted to close Union High School in Dugger. Officials cite declining enrollment among the reasons for the move. Around 170 students attend the Sullivan County school. Our partners at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute report two neighboring high schools are preparing for an influx of transfers. Union is set to close at the end of the current school year.

It is in the same district as North Central High School, which would absorb the Union students. Linton-Stockton High School is part of a separate school corporation and WTHI reports administrators are receiving calls inquiring about transfers.

LHS is located closer to Union than North Central.

Linton-Stockton Schools Superintendent Nick Karazsia says transportation for Dugger students to Linton is currently not provided and an agreement would have to be reached between the two school boards.

Last month, the Muncie Community School Corp. Board of School Trustees approved the consolidation of Southside and Central high schools.
