The Fishers Town Council has opted to table a proposed 1 percent food and beverage tax. Revenue from the tax would be used for economic development projects and to offset property taxes. The council has until the end of the year to make a decision on the hike. The 1 percent tax would put the town in line with some surrounding communities.

During a session Monday, a joint session comprised of the council, the economic development commission and the redevelopment commission approved a different measure involving relocation of Meyer Najem Corp.'s headquarters.

The construction company, already located in the town, is being offered incentives for its $5.5 million planned expansion that includes creating nearly 20 jobs.
