Report: Camry Line Could Stay in Lafayette
The chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Corp.'s (NYSE: TM) operations in North America says no decision has been made regarding future production of the Camry in Lafayette. Bloomberg reports Jim Lentz says a period of time to renew the arrangement with the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. plant is “just opening.” Previous reports suggested the contract between Toyota and plant-owner Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. would end after 2016.
Lentz tells Bloomberg he has been involved in conversations with Toyota and between both automakers.
He says if Camry production were to leave Tippecanoe County, it would likely not move to the model's U.S. flagship perations in Georgetown, Kentucky.
