INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann today announced a statewide partnership between the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) and Ivy Tech Community College, which will provide business and technical skills training for employees and owners of small and emerging businesses in Indiana.
The Lt. Governor noted, “Much of our country's and state's economic growth and job creation are generated by small and emerging businesses. We also know that often these entrepreneurs and their employees need to enhance the business practices and technical skills that are so vital to a successful business. Accessing the resources of Ivy Tech through this partnership will enable our own ISBDC staff to be an even more valuable and effective resource for businesses throughout Indiana.”
“Growing many of our own existing small businesses here in Indiana is as important as ever before. This partnership is going to present training opportunities to these important companies throughout our state. We will be able to streamline the access to information and knowledge that will help advance existing businesses and spur entrepreneurial ideas within emerging companies,” Ivy Tech Community College President Thomas J. Snyder said.
The partnership will allow the ISBDC and its clients to access training, professional development and certification programs provided by Ivy Tech's Corporate College. Through a needs analysis, Ivy Tech Project Consultants and ISBDC Business Advisors are able to work with small business owners to identify the skills gap of their current employees and develop a customized development solution. This partnership supports Governor Pence's focus on improving education and workforce development through his Regional Works Councils and Center for Education and Career Innovation. All of these efforts ensure Indiana will be a national leader in career and technical education workforce readiness.
“Ivy Tech's commitment to ensuring that Indiana citizens, workforce, and businesses are globally competitive makes this partnership a win for entrepreneurs across the state,” said Jacob Schpok, State Director of the ISBDC. “Streamlining the resources of the ISBDC and Ivy Tech will expand both agencies impact on linking the Indiana business community to work force training, ensuring Indiana continues to be the state that works for small business and entrepreneurs,” added Schpok.
Ivy Tech's partnership with the ISBDC also includes representation on the ISBDC State Partnership Board and Regional advisory Boards.
