The Elkhart-based Corporate Partnership for Economic Growth is searching for its next president and chief executive officer. Shawn Peterson, who has led the organization for two years, says he plans to return to the private sector. November 19, 2013

News Release

ELKHART, Ind. – Shawn E. Peterson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Corporate Partnership for Economic Growth, has informed its Board of Directors of his intent to fully return to the private sector.

During Mr. Peterson's two year tenure at CPEG, he led the organization through its formative stages. He increased corporate partner participation from 6 to 17 and focused its efforts on being a regional leadership organization that supports entrepreneurship, talent attraction and development, and regional connectivity.

“We are grateful for Shawn's leadership to further the region during the organization's formation,” said Philip A. Newbold, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Beacon Health Systems. “We wish him the best as we commence a search for his successor.” The Board will conduct a search in hopes of naming a full-time replacement at the beginning of next year. Mr. Peterson will continue in a limited capacity to support the organization's key initiatives through the end of the year.

“This region has tremendous potential,” stated Mr. Peterson. “It has been an honor to work with the Board and other regional and local leaders who have a long-term commitment to realize that potential.”

Mr. Peterson secured more than $3.25 Million for a multi-year entrepreneurship initiative that is currently being modeled by the State of Indiana in other regions. He also assisted the City of Warsaw and the Kosciusko County Economic Development Corporation in securing a state certified technology park designation for an orthopedic accelerator resulting in access to $5 million in tax increment financing funding over time.

Under his leadership, CPEG led a review of the region's talent and workforce needs in partnership with industry, economic development, education, and workforce leaders. The Talent Roadmap for Northern Indiana released last year highlights practical ways to improve industry's access to a ready-workforce. Consistent with the Roadmap, CPEG secured a partnership with the International Center to expand their services to Northern Indiana companies seeking to welcome international professionals and students relocating to the region and to train their employees for international relocation or negotiation

assignments. Mr. Peterson also led an effort to position the region as a finalist for a matching grant to encourage an expansion in science technology engineering and mathematics education.

Another effort led by Mr. Peterson was the formation of a partnership with Conexus Indiana and the development of the North Central Indiana Regional Logistics Council. The council identifies priorities to improve the region's competitive position. As a result of the council's work, CPEG partnered with OrthoWorx, Inc., the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, and Northwest Indiana partners to launch an effort to engage the communities along US 30 and state officials and identify solutions for improving the road to an interstate-like quality from Valparaiso to Fort Wayne.
