News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), will welcome more than 2,100 nurse professionals from around the globe to Indianapolis for the society’s 42nd Biennial Convention November 16-20. During the five-day convention at the JW Marriott Indianapolis, attendees will see and hear the latest in peer-reviewed research, attend keynote presentations, confer international awards, induct new international members, and elect international officers for the next biennium.

On the final day of the convention, STTI will install a South African nurse and professor as the society’s first-ever non-North American president. Hester Klopper, PhD, MBA, RN, RM, FANSA, will become STTI president on Wednesday, November 20. Dr. Klopper is the chief executive officer of the Forum of University Nursing Deans of South Africa (FUNDISA) and was formerly dean of the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

“Sigma Theta Tau members exemplify professional excellence and personal commitment to the nursing profession,” said current STTI President Suzanne Prevost, PhD, RN, COI. “The biennial convention is an important opportunity for them to hear world-class speakers, network with fellow colleagues from around the world, and conduct the official business of the honor society.”

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard will bring official greetings to the convention at its opening plenary session at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 16. In his letter of welcome to the attendees Ballard wrote, “We are excited to have this international organization headquartered here in Indianapolis and to host an amazing group of practicing nurses, instructors, researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs.”

For 90 years, STTI has extended membership invitations to the best and brightest women and men in nursing. The honor society provides its members with exclusive programs, resources, and opportunities—such as the 42nd Biennial Convention—in support of nursing worldwide.
