GNC Planning Whitestown Facility

Posted: Updated:

A nutrition and supplement company could be bringing a major distribution center to central Indiana. The town of Whitestown has approved GNC Holdings Inc.'s (NYSE: GNC) tax abatement request for the $18 million facility, which the company says would result in 175 jobs by 2015. Boone County's redevelopment commission and commissioners must still approve the proposal. Town Manager Dax Norton says work force availability and successful relationships with companies including Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) and Subaru of America Inc. have made Whitestown more attractive to employers. According to the GNC's abatement application, salaries for the new workers will range from $11.50 to $48 per hour. The company says it hopes to begin installing equipment in early 2014 and is aiming for a completion date of June 2015.

Norton says GNC would be using about half of a spec building completed by Indianapolis-based Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE) less than one year ago. He says the building is about 600,000 square feet.
